R. Krishnamurthy (1933-2021) was a distinguished editor of the Tamil daily Dinamalar and a prominent Tamil script epigraphist and numismatist in India. Appointed editor in 1977, he became known for his in-depth study of Tamil inscriptions and the Vatteluttu script. His passion for numismatics led to significant discoveries of coins from the Tamil Sangam period, resulting in his publication, ‘Sangam Age Tamil Coins’. He also established the Tamilnadu Numismatic Society and was honored by the Royal Numismatic Society in London.
