Rafi Peretz is an Israeli Orthodox rabbi and former politician, born on January 7, 1956. He served as a military officer and helicopter pilot, eventually becoming the chief military rabbi of the Israel Defense Forces. Peretz was the leader of the Jewish Home party and a member of the Knesset for the Yamina alliance until he joined Netanyahu's government. Born in Jerusalem to Moroccan Jewish parents, he was raised in the Kiryat Hayovel neighborhood and studied in prominent yeshivas, later being ordained as a rabbi.
