Ragnar Törnquist was a prominent Swedish ophthalmologist and an esteemed professor known for his significant contributions to eye care. He studied medicine at Uppsala University and worked at Sahlgrenska Hospital, where he obtained his doctorate in 1953. Törnquist was pivotal in introducing retinal detachment surgical techniques and fluorescein angiography in Sweden. As head of the ophthalmology department in Örebro from 1961 to 1983, he played a key role in training many Swedish ophthalmologists and founded the ophthalmic assistant training program.
