Walter served as a teacher at the Grenchner Kinderheim Bachtelen from 1973 to 1998. Afterward, he held the position of head of the Office of Culture and Sport in the Solothurn canton until 2003. Additionally, he was an elected member of the Solothurn constitutional council and published works on local history and short stories.
