She studied at the Sibelius Academy under Liisa Linko-Malmio and made her debut performance at the Finnish National Opera in 1974 in the role of Liisa in 'Pohjalaiset'. In addition to this role, she interpreted Karelian folk songs. She was married to Hannu Karpo until 1997 and had two children with him.
