He served as the Secretary of the Odisha Sahitya Academy and edited publications like Odisha Review and Utkal Prasanga. Mishra was also an English teacher at Ravenshaw College, where he contributed significantly to Odia literature. He was known for teaching Odia writing skills in English script to notable figures including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Additionally, he had an interest in astrology and belonged to a family with a legacy in the field.
