Rajni Devi was the daughter of Raja Naresh Chandra Singh and a former member of parliament. Born on January 31, 1937, in Sarangarh at the Giribilas Palace, she studied at St. Joseph's Convent Nagpur and Lady Amritbai College, Nagpur University. She was elected to the Fourth Lok Sabha from Raigarh constituency in 1967 on a Congress party ticket and served until the midterm poll dissolution in 1971. She was married to late Colonel (Retd) Virendra Singh and resided in Jabalpur.
