Ralph F. Hefferline (1910-1974) was a professor of psychology at Columbia University. He is best known for co-authoring the experimental section of the book 'Gestalt Therapy' (1951) which established the Gestalt therapeutic approach. Hefferline was an experimental psychologist closely associated with behaviorism, particularly the works of B.F. Skinner. He created a notable transcription of Skinner's lecture on verbal behavior. He also contributed to the development of biofeedback and had interests in psychoanalysis. He started as a client with therapist Fritz Perls in 1947 but later did not collaborate with him after the book's publication.
