Ralph James Salisbury was an influential American poet born on January 24, 1926, and he passed away on October 9, 2017. He garnered national attention as one of the first self-identified Native American poets with his poem 'In the Children's Museum in Nashville', published in The New Yorker in 1960. His autobiographical work 'So Far, So Good' won the River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize in 2012, while his collection 'Light from a Bullet Hole: Poems New and Selected' was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 2009.
