Rand Steiger, born on June 18, 1957, in New York City, is an accomplished American composer, conductor, and educator. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and joined the California Institute of the Arts as faculty in 1982. Later, he joined the University of California, San Diego, where he chaired the music department. Steiger is known for his innovative compositions, often blending computer music with orchestral elements, and has been involved with contemporary music ensembles. Notable works include "Ecosphere" and "A Menacing Plume." He has also lectured at Harvard University.
