Randolph Wilbert Staten, Sr. was an American politician and football player born on January 24, 1944. He served as a Democrat in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1981 to 1987 and made history as the only African-American elected to the Minnesota Legislature in 1980. Despite his political career, Staten faced legal troubles when he was tried and convicted for writing bad checks in 1985 and shoplifting in 1987. He passed away on May 29, 2020.
