Rangasami L. Kashyap (1938-2022) was an esteemed Indian applied mathematician and Professor of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He co-developed the Ho-Kashyap rule in pattern recognition and introduced the Kashyap information criterion (KIC) for model selection in 1982. A Fellow of several prestigious organizations, he notably translated the four ancient Vedas into English, a unique achievement recognized with the Padma Shri award from the Government of India in 2021.
