He was known by other names such as 'Sandipani', 'Touchak', and 'Kalki'. Anil received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006 for his essay collection 'Aatano Suraj' and was also honored with the Wali Gujarati Ghazal Award for his contributions to the genre of ghazals.
