Ratko Mladić, born on March 12, 1942, in Božanovići, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a former Bosnian Serb general known for serving as the commander of the Army of the Republika Srpska from 1992 to 1996. He has been accused of numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Bosnian War, including the siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica massacre in July 1995, where up to 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were killed. Mladić was arrested in 2011 and convicted of genocide in 2017, receiving a life sentence.
