Ratna Mohini, also known as 'Eli', was a Javanese dancer born on May 17, 1904, in Batavia. She was married to French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson from 1937 until their divorce in 1967, after 30 years of marriage. Known to her friends as 'Eli', she was born Carolina Jean de Souza-Edge. Prior to her marriage to Cartier-Bresson, she was married to Dutch journalist Willem El Beret from 1930 to 1935. After their separation, Cartier-Bresson remarried photographer Martine Franck in 1970. She passed away on October 24, 1988, in Paris.
