Diago was recognized as the 'Best Setter' in the 1998 FIVB World Championship in Japan, where Cuba secured a third-place finish. Additionally, he contributed to Cuba's remarkable performance by winning a silver medal in the 1990 FIVB World Championship in Brazil and clinching gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1991 and 1999.
