Raúl Reyes, born Luis Edgar Devia on September 30, 1948, was a prominent figure in the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). He served as a union leader in Caquetá, Colombia, before engaging in guerrilla warfare for nearly 30 years. Reyes rose through the ranks to become the spokesman for FARC and a member of its secretariat. He was often mentioned as a potential successor to the group's leader Manuel Marulanda. Reyes played a pivotal role in international communications and peace negotiations with the Colombian government until his death on March 1, 2008.
