A former competitor, he won the bronze medal at the 1995 Canadian National Championships and was the 1993 Canadian National Junior Champion. He has coached several national and international champions, including Olympic medalist Kaetlyn Osmond and Patrick Chan. As an ISU Technical Specialist, Walia has made significant contributions to figure skating in Canada and has received multiple awards for his coaching excellence.
