Ravindra N. Sudan, also known as Ravi Sudan, was an Indian-American electrical engineer and physicist born on June 8, 1931, in Chinani, Kashmir, India. He specialized in plasma physics and held prominent positions at Cornell University, including Professor of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics. Sudan made significant contributions to the understanding of plasma instabilities and turbulence, and he discovered the Whistler instability in 1963. He co-founded the Cornell Theory Center and received several awards, including the James Clerk Maxwell Prize in 1989, before passing away on January 22, 2009, in Saint Petersburg.
