Ray Collins, Baron Collins of Highbury, born on December 21, 1954, is an English trade unionist and Labour Party politician. He served as General Secretary of the Labour Party from June 12, 2008, and was involved with the TGWU for over 30 years. Collins played a key role in the merger of the TGWU with Amicus, establishing the Unite union. Raised to the peerage in January 2011, he has been a member of the House of Lords since then. He also made significant contributions to LGBT visibility in politics.
