Ray Funnell is a retired senior officer of the Royal Australian Air Force, born on March 1, 1935, in Brisbane, Australia. He served as Chief of Air Staff from 1987 to 1992, following a distinguished career that began with flying the CAC Sabre in the 1950s and 1960s. He commanded No. 6 Squadron from 1972 to 1975 and was involved in the introduction of the General Dynamics F-111C into Australian service. Promoted to Air Marshal in 1986, he played a key role in air power doctrine and later contributed to various federal committees post-retirement.
