In the late 1950s, he performed as a duo with his wife, Jo Lea. He worked with notable figures like Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich, contributing significantly to jazz music. After leaving the Kenton orchestra, he and Jo Lea started a vocal group called The Starlings. He passed away at the age of 49 on May 15, 1982, from cancer.
