Raymond Peter McCreesh was a member of the IRA and a hunger striker, born on February 25, 1957, in Camlough, Northern Ireland. He was the seventh of eight children and became active in the fight against British occupation as a teenager, joining the Fianna Éireann youth organization at 16. After joining the Provisional Irish Republican Army, he was imprisoned for 14 years following an attack on British forces. He began a hunger strike on March 22, 1981, alongside Patsy O’Hara, during which he died 61 days later on May 21, 1981.
