He is known as the inventor of the first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device, which he developed based on research measuring sodium and potassium levels in living cells. His groundbreaking work led to the invention of the nuclear magnetic resonance machine with visual display capabilities in 1969, which is primarily used for detecting tumors.
