Reginald Oswald Gibson was a British chemist born on September 30, 1902, in London, and he passed away on July 22, 1983. He invented polyethylene alongside Eric William Fawcett at ICI on March 27, 1933. He earned a Bachelor's degree in 1924 and a Master's degree in 1928. Gibson conducted high-pressure experiments at ICI, which led to the inadvertent creation of polyethylene, though initial results could not be reproduced. The interest in polyethylene waned at ICI until it was successfully produced again in late 1935.
