Reidar Svein Sigmond is a retired Norwegian physicist born on October 23, 1931, in Oslo. He has worked extensively in gas discharge physics, particularly on discharges and flashovers in high-voltage systems, as well as investigating thunderstorms. He graduated as a civil engineer from NTH in 1956 and served as an associate professor from 1965 to 1984, becoming a professor of technical physics in 1985. His notable work includes measuring the effects of high-voltage lines in radioactive areas around the Chernobyl reactor.
