After losing his mother at the age of four, he became a private investigator in 1972, and later worked as a dog handler in the Border Guard. In 1992, after receiving a disability pension, he dedicated himself to voluntary search efforts, becoming Finland's first volunteer specializing in drowning victims. Known for using his trained search dog Radar, he aided in numerous searches across Finland and neighboring countries before passing away in a traffic accident.
