He performed at the Uusi Iloinen Teatteri from 1987 to 1994, also working as a backing vocalist. Kosunen was previously married to singer Leena Nilsson, who wrote the lyrics for his song 'Kuunpoika'. They had a son who tragically passed away at the age of 30 in 2015. Kosunen remarried in 2021, and his father was also a musician.
