René del Risco Bermúdez was a Dominican writer and publicist, born on May 8, 1937, in San Pedro de Macoris and died on December 20, 1972. He was the grandson of writer Federico Bermúdez and studied law in Santo Domingo. Del Risco joined the resistance against the dictator Rafael Trujillo and was imprisoned and deported to Puerto Rico in 1960. After Trujillo's fall, he returned to the Dominican Republic to focus on literature, founding the cultural group El Puño and publishing poetry and stories. His novel about Trujillo's impact was published posthumously.
