René Van Laken was a Flemish music teacher and guitarist, best known as a member of the Antwerp group De Strangers from 1968 to 1976. He joined the band in 1968 as a musical accompanist after member Alex Boeye had to be hospitalized. Van Laken's involvement with the group was primarily as a support musician. He departed from De Strangers in 1976, as balancing band life with his teaching career became increasingly difficult. He was the third member of the band to pass away.
