Rexford F. Daubenmire was a prominent American botanist and plant ecologist known for his substantial contributions to plant ecology in the twentieth century. He introduced a vegetation classification scheme, advanced the understanding of ecological succession, and authored essential reference textbooks for the field. Daubenmire also developed pioneering sampling techniques that are still utilized in vegetation measurement today. Additionally, he served as the president of the Ecological Society of America in 1967 and received the Eminent Ecologist Award in 1979.
