Richard Daryl 'Ric' Brown is an American economist born on June 1, 1946, in Arlington, Virginia. He served as the Virginia Secretary of Finance from 2008 to 2018, having previously joined the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget in 1971 and becoming its director in 2001. He was reappointed multiple times before taking on the role of Secretary of Finance. Brown graduated with a B.A. in economics from the College of William & Mary and obtained a Master of Commerce from the University of Richmond.
