Richard Alfred Hunter (1923–1981) was a notable British physician with German origins and served as president of the History of Medicine Society of the Royal Society of Medicine from 1972 to 1973. He excelled as a psychiatrist, historian, and book collector. Alongside his mother, Dr. Ida Macalpine, he co-authored "Three Hundred Years of Psychiatry 1535 to 1860," published by Oxford University Press in 1963. The book, illustrated with title pages from his collection, is a significant historical resource for British psychiatry prior to 1860.
