Richard Leigh Cruess, born on December 17, 1929, is a Canadian orthopaedic surgeon and academic. He received his BA from Princeton and MD from Columbia. Cruess completed his internship and residency at Royal Victoria Hospital and New York Orthopaedic Hospital. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and had significant roles at Royal Victoria Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children. He was Dean of McGill University Faculty of Medicine from 1981 to 1995. He has been honored with multiple awards, including the Order of Canada and the National Order of Quebec.
