Richard D. Lines was an American amateur astronomer known for his contributions to the field of variable star photometry. He started as a deep-sky observer and photographer, later becoming a notable member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers and the International Amateur-Professional Photoelectric Photometry. Together with his wife, he built an observatory in Arizona and co-discovered the comet Seki-Lines in 1962. He received the Amateur Achievement Award in 1992, shortly before his death, and his legacy continues through the award named after him.
