Richard E. Goodman is an American engineering geologist, known for his work in rock mechanics. He earned a Bachelor's degree in geology in 1955 and a Master's degree in civil engineering and applied geology in 1958 from Cornell University. He completed his Ph.D. in engineering geology at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1963, where he later became a full professor. Goodman authored a textbook on rock mechanics and a biography of Karl von Terzaghi. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including membership in the National Academy of Engineering.
