Richard Alfred Farrimond is a British engineer, former army officer, and astronaut born on September 15, 1947. He is a PhD student at King's College London specializing in history. After receiving an education from Clifton College and Sandhurst, he served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Corps of Signals. Farrimond worked for British Aerospace, Matra Marconi Space, and Astrium. He was selected as a backup payload specialist for the Space Shuttle mission STS-61-H in 1984, but the mission was cancelled following the Challenger disaster, thus ending his involvement in the space program.
