Richard Eugene Glossip, born on February 9, 1963, is an American prisoner sentenced to death at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for allegedly commissioning the 1997 murder of Barry Van Treese. Justin Sneed, the actual murderer, testified against Glossip in exchange for a life sentence. Glossip's conviction has drawn international scrutiny due to the lack of corroborative evidence. He was also the key figure in the Supreme Court case Glossip v. Gross regarding lethal injection protocols, which upheld the use of certain drugs in executions.
