Richard Hidalgo Jara was a prominent Peruvian mountaineer and mountain guide born on February 14, 1967, and passed away on May 8, 2019. He was notable for being the first climber in Peru to summit six of the fourteen mountains exceeding 8000 meters without supplemental oxygen. His climbing achievements included the peaks of Kilimanjaro, Chachani, Aconcagua, and Cho Oyu. Tragically, Hidalgo was found dead in his tent at camp 2 of Makalu Mountain at an elevation of 6600 meters on the morning of his death.
