Richard Hallowell Hoppin (1913–1991) was a notable American musicologist known for his expertise in medieval music, particularly the music of Cyprus in the 14th and 15th centuries. He earned his BA from Carleton College and his MA from Harvard University before completing his Ph.D. in 1952. Hoppin taught at various institutions, including Mount Union College, The University of Texas, and Ohio State University. His significant contribution to the field includes the publication of 'Medieval Music' in 1978, a standard reference work in English.
