Richard Deforest Palmiter is an American biochemist and molecular geneticist at the University of Washington. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from Duke University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. Since joining the University of Washington faculty in 1974, he has contributed significantly to molecular biology, notably through his work on transgenic mice alongside Ralph L. Brinster. His current research focuses on neuronal circuits affecting behavior, particularly appetite, employing methods like optogenetics to explore the function of neurons expressing key proteins.
