He was born in Norwich, educated at Bryanston School and The Queen's College, Oxford, and called to the Bar in 1965. He earned the title of Queen's Counsel in 1987. Notably, Rampton also represented McDonald's in the McLibel case and had several other significant legal battles, including successful representation of George Galloway against The Daily Telegraph.
