Sir Richard John Roberts is a British biochemist and molecular biologist born in Derby on September 6, 1943. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1993, sharing it with American scientist Philip Sharp for their discovery of introns in eukaryotic DNA and the mechanism of gene splicing. Sir Roberts received the title of Knight in 2008 for his contributions to science.
