Richard Shoup was an American computer scientist and entrepreneur known for his influential work in computer graphics and animation. He earned a B.S.E.E. and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, where he explored programmable logic. He developed SuperPaint at Xerox PARC, one of the earliest image editing programs, and co-founded Aurora Systems for digital animation. He received notable awards for his contributions, including an Emmy and an Academy Award. A passionate musician, he played jazz trombone in the San Francisco Bay Area. He passed away from lung cancer in 2015.
