Richard J. Varn, born on May 31, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa, is an American former politician. He graduated from Solon High School in 1976 and then worked at Colonial Bakery while attending the University of Iowa, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1983 to 1987 and then in the Iowa Senate until 1994. After leaving the bakery, he engaged in construction and became director of the Eastern Iowa Construction Alliance.
