Richard Harold Wendorf is an American and British art historian and literary critic born on March 17, 1948. He served as the director of the American Museum & Gardens from January 2010 until December 2021. Wendorf has held prominent positions including the director and librarian of the Boston Athenaeum and the librarian of Harvard's Houghton Library. He is a professor of English and art history at Northwestern University and authored a notable biography on Sir Joshua Reynolds, earning the Annibel Jenkins Biography Prize. Currently, he is researching Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield.
