Risei Kitazume was a pioneering Japanese clarinetist and prominent figure in the classical music scene. He began his clarinet studies in the Seijo Gakuen Orchestra and was involved with the New Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from Tokyo Music School in 1943, he held principal positions in various orchestras, including the Toho Symphony Orchestra. Not only a performer, but he also contributed significantly to music education, nurturing many clarinetists and teaching at various universities. He published writings on his experiences and composed several works, including pieces for clarinet.
