Rita A. Crundwell is a former Comptroller and Treasurer of Dixon, Illinois, known for committing one of the largest municipal frauds in U.S. history. Over 22 years, she embezzled $53.7 million from the city to fund her Quarter Horse breeding operation, RC Quarter Horses, and her extravagant lifestyle. Crundwell was fired in 2012 and sentenced to 19.5 years in prison after pleading guilty. She served part of her sentence before being released in mid-2021 to home confinement at her brother's farm in Dixon.
