Rita Deanin Abbey (1930-2021) was a pioneering multidisciplinary abstract artist and one of the first art professors at UNLV. Born to Polish immigrants in New Jersey, she moved to Las Vegas in 1965 and created various large-scale public artworks. Abbey's artistic ventures spanned painting, sculpture, stained glass, and more. She had over 60 solo exhibitions and participated in over 160 group exhibitions worldwide. A museum dedicated to her work opened a year after her passing, showcasing her sculptures and extensive artistic contributions.
