Rita Freitas is a Brazilian porta-bandeira born in Rio de Janeiro in 1955. In 1982, she became the first white woman to hold the position of the first porta-bandeira at Salgueiro, trained by master-sala Manoel Dionísio. She innovated by releasing her left hand from her waist during performances to enhance her dance. She also promoted specific training for porta-bandeiras. Rita represented Salgueiro until 1986 and went on to perform for Grande Rio and Império Serrano before returning to Salgueiro for her final performance in 2006.
